At a glance
- Best for
- Self-paced upskilling across many subjects
- Standout
- Lifetime access to purchased courses
- Pricing model
- One-time purchase per course
Pros
- Breadth No Rival Matches: More than 250,000 courses in over 75 languages, taken by 80 million students across 1.1 billion enrollments.
- Thirty Days to Decide: Eligible individual courses can be refunded within 30 days of purchase, and courses you buy outright generally come with lifetime access.
- Promotions Are Frequent: Courses list from $19.99 to $199.99, and site-wide sales run often — early September's started from $11.99 — so a best-seller rarely needs buying at full list price.
Cons
- Refunds weigh how much of a course you've already watched, and Apple in-app purchases refund as Udemy credit rather than cash, so preview the free lectures first and buy on the web if you'd like the full 30-day flexibility.
- Quality varies from instructor to instructor and the Personal Plan renews automatically with no refund once billed, so lean on each course's rating and recent reviews, and set a reminder a day before any trial ends.
The Verdict

Udemy, Inc. is headquartered at 600 Harrison Street, San Francisco, and US and Canadian learners contract with it under California law. Since 11 May 2026 it has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Coursera, Inc. (NYSE: COUR), after a merger that retired the UDMY listing. Udemy reports more than 250,000 courses, over 75 languages, 80 million students, 1.1 billion enrollments and learners in more than 180 countries, alongside Udemy Business, its enterprise product.
Individual courses are one-time purchases listed between $19.99 and $199.99: the Complete Python Bootcamp and Complete JavaScript Course list at $199.99, Machine Learning A-Z and the Ultimate AWS Cloud Practitioner course at $159.99, 100 Days of Code: Python and Ultimate AWS Solutions Architect Associate at $129.99, the Complete Full-Stack Web Development Bootcamp at $124.99 and CompTIA Security+ at $119.99. Frequent promotions cut these sharply, with early September's sale starting from $11.99. The Personal Plan starts from $13 a month as published, billed monthly or annually, for access to more than 28,000 courses.

Independently, Trustpilot rates Udemy 1.6 across 1,962 reviews, with refunds and subscriptions the main themes, and BBB lists 188 complaints over three years, most answered; the apps rate 4.7 from 77,000 App Store ratings and 4.4 from 512,000 Google Play reviews.

About this review
How this was written, who paid for what, and how the verdict stays independent.
Is this Udemy review sponsored?
No. Udemy did not pay for this write-up, see it before publication, or have any say in the verdict. If we earn anything it is a commission after you buy, and it comes out of the merchant’s margin rather than your price.
How was the Udemy assessed?
By using it and by checking the claims made about it against what it actually does. Where our time with something has been limited, the review says so rather than implying more testing than happened.
What else have you reviewed in Education?
Everything in Education sits in the review library, where you can filter by budget and sort by rating, price or how recently it landed.
Do you update reviews after publishing?
Yes — when a product changes, when a price moves for good, or when we get something wrong. Corrections are made on the piece itself with a note saying what changed.
